Pillar 1: Contributions to the industry (25% weight) – comprised of 3 sections

Section 1

Rate the candidate from 1-10 based on their trailblazing achievements in establishing or significantly growing (while serving in the most senior leadership role) at least one state- or privately-owned Arabian Gulf-based chemical company/ies that went on to become a lasting enterprise/s and a significant economic force for the region.

OR (applicable for candidates in government roles) rate the candidate based on their legacy in formulating at least one prominent regulation or a governmental policy or a governmental manufacturing entity which contributed to the development and sustainable growth of the chemical industry in their respective country or the wider region.


Section 2

Rate the candidate from 1-10 based on the following performance indicators at the company which he/she led: (for industry executives ONLY)

  1. At least doubled or substantially increased the production capacity at the company/ or their respective country, by building new plants or expanding existing facilities through acquisitions, or creating significant plant and process efficiencies, thus contributing to regional production capacity figures.
  2. Number of countries/ continents into which he/she expanded the company/ies and established presence.
  3. Number of technologies acquired or developed in house for realization of local projects and/ or number of patents
  4. Size of critical mass built through organic and inorganic acquisitions
  5. Building and expanding the company’s marketing network

* The score should be proportionate to the number of the above-mentioned contributions that the candidate has accomplished. These results must have been achieved during the candidate’s tenure at the time of serving the company/organization for which he/she was nominated.


Section 3

Rate the candidate from 1-10 based on the weight of their contributions to establishing new downstream and allied industries in their respective country or the GCC region:

  1. By diversifying their production further downstream
  2. By expanding into new product lines
    OR (applicable for candidates in government roles) by implementing a state policy or a program that thereby succeeded in creating new downstream industries
  3. By expanding their marketing network to new geographies

* The score should be proportionate to the number of the above-mentioned contributions to establishing a downstream industry that the candidate has accomplished.


Pillar 2: Contribution to the region (25% weight) – comprised of 2 sections

Section 1

Rate the candidate from 1-10 according to their direct or indirect contribution to growing his/her country’s global ranking in production/ export/ logistics/ (for candidates in government roles) ease of doing business/ attracting foreign investment, etc., for instance, by building and expanding a company, or by implementing a policy or a program that created an enabling environment for the same.


Section 2

Rate the candidate from 1-10 on their contribution to the workforce nationalization of the chemical industry in their respective country, by achieving a significant increase in the % of local employees in the company’s/industry’s workforce during his/ her tenure.

OR (applicable for candidates in government roles) through implementing a policy that led to the establishment of vocational institutes and talent development academies that contributed to building technical and innovation capabilities within the national workforce.


Pillar 3: Contributions to society and the environment (25% weight) – comprised of 3 sections

Section 1

Rate the candidate from 1-10 based on their role in developing a technology or a policy which went on to solve a real-life challenge within their respective country, in the Arabian Gulf region or globally. (e.g., climate change, plastics recycling, water scarcity, etc.)


Section 2

Rate the candidate from 1-10 if one or more of the achievements for which they are known includes industry programs/ a campaign or an initiative that addresses environmental, health, safety, security (EHS&S) and sustainability challenges in the region and society.


Section 3

Rate the candidate from 1-10 based on their work supporting or launching awareness and educational campaigns or any regional initiatives to improve the industry’s image among the public and address important public-facing issues.


Pillar 4: Personal legacy (25% weight) – comprised of 5 sections

Section 1

Rate the candidate from 1-10 based on the length of their tenure serving, developing, and advancing the chemical and petrochemical sector in their respective country or the wider Arabian Gulf region.


Section 2

Rate the candidate from 1-10 according to their multi-faceted contributions to society and the community outside of their work, their social or humanitarian engagement as well as being part of any charitable organizations designed to support the betterment of society and the region.


Section 3

Rate the candidate based on the number of awards and recognitions he/she received both within the region and internationally, with 1 being least acclaimed and 10 being most acclaimed.


Section 4

Rate the candidate based on their board membership positions at regional and global organizations related to the chemical and petrochemical industry and the wider industrial and economic sector.


Section 5

Rate the candidate from 1-10 (based on your qualified judgment) as to how closely they live up to the definition of a “chemical industry pioneer”, always pushing forward, challenging the status quo, demonstrating strong leadership skills, showing an innovative approach to their work – and motivating their employees to do the same. The most deserving candidate will also be an inspiration to all and a champion of the development of the chemical and petrochemical industry in their respective country or region. Such an individual may be retired, or deceased, or may have left the industry altogether, but his/her legacy must still be making an impact and remembered by those it inspired.
